18 Cows Minus Your Body Count?” — DJ Aludah’s Bride Price Tweet Sparks Online Firestorm

What if bride price was calculated based on your body count? That’s the wild suggestion DJ Aludah threw into the timeline this week and let’s just say, the internet did not stay quiet.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the Ugandan spin master stirred up controversy with a now-viral post that read:

“Body count should be considered when calculating bride price. Your family tells us 18 cows, you tell us how many men have eaten, and we reduce by that figure.”

Whew! That tweet lit up timelines like a DJ Aludah weekend set.

Many women clapped back instantly, calling the post “sexist,” “shallow,” and “patriarchal nonsense.” Some pointed out the double standards in society where men are rarely judged by their sexual past, but women always pay the price literally, in this case.

Others slammed the logic behind equating human worth with sexual history. “So a woman’s value is now a math equation? Let’s do the same for men too, then,” one user posted.

Surprisingly (or not), many men gave the idea a standing ovation, joking that it could revolutionize bride price negotiations and “finally bring balance to the system.”

One user wrote, “Why not? If mileage affects the price of a used car, then…”

The debate is still raging, with both sides holding strong opinions. No one can tell whether it was a joke taken too far or social commentary disguised as humor.
