Uganda’s media and entertainment industry marked a significant turning point today with the official launch of the Entertainment and Media Hosts Association (EMHA) at Kyambogo, ushering in a new era for mainstream radio and television presenters across the country.

The colorful and well-attended event brought together presenters from a wide range of radio and television stations, signalling a strong sense of unity and shared purpose within an industry that has long operated without a formal collective voice.

For years, Uganda’s creative sector has seen musicians, comedians and drama actors benefit from structured associations that advocate for their welfare and professional interests. Mainstream radio and television presenters, however, remained largely unrepresented despite their central role in shaping entertainment, culture and public conversation. That gap is what gave birth to EMHA.

EMHA Patron Hadija Namyalo, the Head of the Office of the National Chairman (ONC) said the formation of the Association was a timely and important step for Uganda’s media industry.

“Radio and television presenters play a critical role in shaping public opinion, promoting culture and driving national development, yet for a long time they have lacked a unified platform,” Namyalo said. “EMHA provides that structure and voice, and I am proud to support an initiative that promotes professionalism, unity and empowerment within the media industry.”

The Association aims to organize media hosts under one umbrella, providing structure, representation and formal recognition for presenters who have often operated individually. Through EMHA, members hope to professionalize the industry, advocate for better working conditions, and unlock access to government support and funding opportunities that are typically available only to organized creative groups.

Beyond advocacy, EMHA also acknowledges the broader influence of media presenters in national development. As voices behind the microphone and faces on screen, presenters play a key role in informing, educating and entertaining the public, promoting Ugandan culture, and shaping public discourse across communities.

Speaking at the launch, EMHA Chairman Miles Rwamiti described the Association as a platform built on professionalism, inclusivity and voluntary participation. “EMHA is open to all radio and television presenters who believe in collective growth, mutual support and the long-term empowerment of the media industry.”

The successful launch at Kyambogo marks the beginning of a promising new chapter for Uganda’s mainstream media hosts.

The committee consists of media personalities Miles Rwamiti, Dagy Nice, Mc Kats and Mc Casmir as the secretary.
