In a stirring evening of elegance and empowerment, some of Uganda’s most influential women in leadership were celebrated on Friday at the Kampala Serena Hotel, as a female-focused leadership mentorship platform marked its first anniversary.

The She Walks event, held under the theme “Purposeful Strides, Scaling Hills in Heels,” brought together an inspiring mix of corporate leaders, entrepreneurs, creatives, and emerging voices in business and governance. The celebration reflected on a year of impactful mentorship and affirmed a shared commitment to growing spaces that nurture and support women in leadership.

The platform, launched in 2024, has grown into a powerful movement of intergenerational mentorship and visibility, offering women a place to connect, reflect, and lead with intention.

Hosted by UBL board member Rachel Ddumba, the night opened with stylish arrivals, live jazz performances, and reflective storytelling from across sectors. Ddumba emphasized the significance of platforms that not only recognize women’s achievements but also reinforce the importance of community and support systems in professional growth.

The keynote speaker, Lynda Biribonwa, Chairperson of the Board at the Petroleum Authority of Uganda, delivered an impactful address that traced her leadership journey from her early days at the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) to helming one of the country’s most strategic institutions.

“There is nothing I love like seeing women thrive in spaces we were never expected to occupy,” she said. “My career has taught me that leadership is about values, resilience, and reaching back to uplift others. If we’re climbing, let’s carry others along.”

Biribonwa’s reflections on mentorship, courage, and intentional leadership drew loud applause and set the tone for an evening that went beyond celebration into purpose driven dialogue.

While the occasion was deeply rooted in celebrating women, the presence of supportive male allies and leaders from Uganda’s corporate landscape underscored the shared responsibility in closing gender gaps and fostering inclusive growth.

Andrew Kilonzo, Managing Director of Uganda Breweries Limited, applauded the platform’s growth and expressed pride in the collective strides made in its first year.

“This evening is not only a celebration of progress it is a reaffirmation of the power of consistent, purposeful steps. As we look ahead, we must continue creating room for women to thrive, lead, and inspire.”

Throughout the evening, the importance of visibility, mentorship, and authentic connection was echoed by attendees, many of whom have benefitted from the program’s curated learning and networking engagements.

“It’s not enough to be successful in isolation,” one attendee shared. “This platform reminds us that leadership must be intentional, generous, and anchored in lifting others.”

The first anniversary event capped a year of thought-leadership sessions, mentorship circles, and community engagements, all championing the personal and professional journeys of women across diverse industries.
