The Ugandan entertainment fraternity is mourning the loss of veteran media personality Michael Owor, best known to many as DJ Bush Baby, whose sudden death has left fans and colleagues reeling with shock and sadness.
Bush Baby was found lifeless by family members at his home in Bugonga Barracks, Entebbe, on Monday. While the cause of death is yet to be confirmed, tributes continue to pour in for a man who played a key role in shaping Uganda’s media and music landscape for more than 20 years.
His untimely passing follows a harrowing health scare during the Covid-19 lockdown in 2021. A freak accident while washing his car left him with a fractured hip and internal organ injuries after stepping on a broken manhole cover. The incident nearly cost him his life and led to a public appeal that raised over UGX 15 million for his life-saving surgery.
He later underwent a successful operation at URO Care Hospital and, after months of recovery, bounced back into the entertainment world.
“I’m feeling better,” he said back then. “The catheters will be removed after a review.”
Known for his versatility and unmatched passion for Ugandan music, Bush Baby became a household name through his work at Vision Group and Urban TV, where he held the position of Content Manager Entertainment. In recent years, he remained active in the nightlife and events scene, regularly playing at venues like The Gardens Najjera, where he had been booked to perform again this Saturday.
Bush Baby’s legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the talent he nurtured. Funeral details will be announced by the family in the coming days.
Rest in power, legend.
