Kololo Independence Grounds came alive in a burst of colour, rhythm and national pride on January 8, 2026, as thousands of Ugandans gathered for the inaugural Uganda One Festival an ambitious cultural showcase that organisers and attendees alike hailed as an overwhelming success.

From the early hours of the morning, streams of revellers poured into the historic grounds, many dressed in traditional attire and national colours, setting the tone for a day dedicated to unity, diversity and shared identity. The festival’s central message oneness was felt across Kololo as strangers exchanged smiles, stories and experiences in a rare moment of collective celebration.

On the main stage, Uganda’s rich cultural tapestry took centre stage. Traditional dance troupes from different regions mesmerised the audience with energetic footwork and rhythmic drums, while musicians playing indigenous instruments filled the air with authentic sounds. Contemporary Ugandan artists added a modern edge, delivering electrifying performances that kept the crowd on its feet.

Away from the stage, the festival grounds buzzed with activity. Food stalls served local favourites such as Rolex and gonja, while artisans showcased handmade jewellery, woven baskets and vibrant fabrics. Educational and exhibition booths offered insights into Uganda’s history, conservation efforts and creative initiatives, making the festival both entertaining and informative.

One of the day’s most symbolic moments was the Unity Walk, where participants joined hands and circled the grounds, affirming their commitment to national cohesion. Speeches from national leaders reinforced this message, highlighting unity as a foundation for progress.

Minister for Gender, Labour and Social Development, Hon. Peace Mutuuzo, noted that government had now fully recognised the creative sector as an economic industry, revealing an investment of over Shs28 billion to support creatives. She commended Sylvia Damalie Awori, Chairperson of the National Organising Committee, for her leadership in turning vision into reality.

Awori, in turn, applauded the support from State House, the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development, Operation Wealth Creation and other partners, describing the creative industry as a powerful engine for jobs, dignity and social cohesion.
